DIAMOND CUT wheel restoration

Don’t lose the use of your car for days – We come to you!

In the last few years Diamond Cut alloy wheels have mushroomed in popularity, easily recognized by the shining aluminium faces on the spokes and rim contrasting with the painted surfaces of the wheel. They are now a premium option in most car ranges.

Unfortunately their attractive appearance is easily damaged by coming into contact with kerbs or other obstacles and cannot be restored to original condition without the use of specialized machinery. Until now only large, general-purpose machines sited in workshops could carry out this process.

WheelWizard has changed the game! We have the first lightweight mobile CNC machine in Switzerland, specially designed to refurbish diamond cut rims in a mobile workshop.

This computer controlled machine not only offers a choice of factory finishes but keeps a permanent record of every wheel processed including the amount of metal removed at each cut to ensure that the wheel remains within factory tolerances and your safety is never compromised.

“Did you know that some manufacturers use the same pattern of wheel for both diamond cut and coated finishes. This means we can upgrade your plain painted alloys to a sparkling diamond cut finish or you could go with the current trend and exchange your diamond cut finish for dark grey or black painted wheels in a gloss or matt finish for that ‘cool and mean’ look”.

OUR PROCESS

The initial process is similar to that for painted wheels, but the wheel is then placed in the CNC machine where a laser maps out the face to enable the computerised diamond tipped cutting tool to remove a thin sliver of metal, approximately 0.2 mm, from the aluminium faces

STEP 03.

The wheel is then mounted in the computer controlled vertical lathe machine where a laser maps out the damaged face to enable the diamond tipped cutting tool to remove the precise amount of metal, necessary to restore the gleaming blemish free aluminium face of the wheel.

STEP 04.

Two coats of special lacquer are then applied to protect the rim and seal in the shine.

The wheels are baked under purpose built infrared lamps to cure and harden the finish.

STEP 05.

Your ‘like new’ rims are now ready to be refitted to your car which can be driven away immediately.

PLEASE NOTE:

We do not paint the back of the wheel.

We do not repair buckled, severely damaged or corroded wheels requiring welding or straightening although we can arrange for a separate quote to have this work carried out at your own risk if requested.

Diamond cut rims can be repaired on average 1-3 times as only so much metal can be removed before the appearance changes due to Low patterns, or deep Damage: If the area of the rim to be diamond cut (the ‘pattern’) is low or uneven through either the manufacturer’s design or having been diamond cut previously, a further cut will begin to erode the pattern. Occasionally, If the damage is deeper than the pattern, not even 1 cut can be performed without the expense of tig welding in additional aluminium to raise the pattern profile.

To prolong the life of the rim it is necessary to always remove as little metal as possible, so a Smart repair, avoiding cutting can often be a good choice. Our highly skilled technicians will advise you of the best option for your rims when they visit.
